Doom Review

Written By Dragon scorpion 77 aka Gerry Barnaby

Doom the age old battle against the force of darkness as you relentlessly carve your way through the complex building's of mars UAC cutting down demons along the way in order to close the portal they opened to hell.

After complete the game on easy mode ive come to see how the game is in full  , there are a few things that i have noticed that are different from what is show at E3 as the game plays in a different way from what is show & there are a few bug's that need to be sort.
Graphic wise this game is great ,  it run smooth at 1080p 60fps on the ps4 perfectly there is no frame drop that ive noticed  but it down side is that its not a scary game like doom 3 was ,  its a full on run & gun fast pace game where you cant just stop to look at the environment or your wind up demon food.

The combat system is pretty good in combat as the weapon are easy select from the wheel you can switch between weapon with ease , the only draw back to the game its the speed of the movement of the character you are playing.

Now im aware that this is a run & gun game you need to be moving fast in order to dodge incoming fire balls & plasma blast from demons but the move does tend to be a little to sensitive & over baring at times when you are trying to look around for stuff like collectibles.

This is something as well because of the fast pace nature of the game is hard to have time to look for anything when you are being over run & ran down by demons, which make it almost impossible to search for stuff.

If anyone say they've complete this game on easy in less than 24 hours they are lying because apoun playing this myself this game will take at least 2 days to complete on easy mode that just rushing through the game collecting what you can on the way.

Now i bet well your thinking that easy mode its easy.......NO the thing i come to notice is that this even on easy mode doesn't hold you hand you still have a challenge , there was a few time it gets over challenging , specially when it come to the boss battles.

Even the boss on easy mode are a challenge there are few that are very OP for a easy mode, you would expect this on a harder mode , but what concerns me is if they are OP on easy mode how OP are them on High difficulty. Not sure if this was in intentional to be this way but the boss spider master is way to over OP on easy mode even i struggle to beat it ,  i died about 4 times before defeating it on easy mode.

I can truly say it lives up to the doom name in every way brutal fast & relentless at times, the blood & gory is just everywhere on certain levels , there is just something disgusting about walking through pool's of blood or body hanging on the floors & ceilings to get to your destination which make it a great game portraying doom.

The level design on the demon are pretty cool, there some new demons as well as the one you know from the original doom games with there own unique way of attacking you, the imps climb of walls throwing fire balls at you , the hell knights are more fast & aggressive with this game they take a lot to put down.
The only thing i was dispointed in is the way the demon come in to play a little tiny spark they appear , i think they should have kept the doom 3 style entrance of demon would have been better.

One thing i do miss is the cinema scene which have been taken out of this game , but there is a story to the game in the ways of video recording or hologram moments throughout the game to give you a sense of what going on.

Although they took at the cut scene i still think they should have kepted them in certain area as the game does feel like its missing plot holes in the story to which they could of been told a little bit better with the cut scene , but i can see why they took them out as it give the player more game play & the option to carry on the game without have to wait 10 mins before continuing.

The story its self was good its does leave you with a sense of will there be a sequal because unlike before when you arrive at the station & all hell break loose, you find that your character that your playing has a past & destiny which seem to be past down from generation to generation when the hell gate is open which is clever story.

Trophy side of things some are pretty easy to get as they involve certain thing in the story, other you have to do challenges & rune challenge to get, the only draw back is that its not gonna be on play-through to get all the trophy there is gonna be some grinding to get them.

The one ultimate challenge which is gonna be the toughest one is ultra nightmare, yes if you want that platinum trophy you have to beat the game in ultra nightmare, from what ive learned is it one play through you die that it back to the very start of the game which ive learn from previous games can be extremely frustrating special with this game.

Its because the length of the game & the amount of time it get you to get to the end of the game you have to put in a lot of hours to beat it, if you right at the end level boss you die that is gonna frustrate the hell out of you, i dont think these developer through that one through because its hard in easy, so you can imagine what it like on ultra nightmare.

There are a few issue with bugs like the loading screen, few time ive had to restart because the screen froze or was loading right this has only happen once or twice, there been one level where a imp for some reason ended up in a wall throwing fire ball at me, ive had to start the level because of that it because certain level require you to clear the area of demon before the lock down can be realized it anouying when that happens.

Thankfully these are the only issues ive found with the main story mode of the game, as the rest of the game run smooth.

Snapmap side of doom is brilliant as you able to create any map in any way you can to challenge players , but the one fatal flaw in this side is the Snap map Academy that teach you how to make the maps & add objects.

There's is a reason for this its because they haven't thought out that most people have a hard time with read thing because of dyslexia this is the gonna be the one problem with these people trying to understand this on how to make things, i think this is where this should of had a voice over on how to do things to make it easy for some people to understand on how to do this part of the game.

Its can be very complicated to make a map work as it not very well shown on certain objective on how to use them in the game this to me is a poor executed snapmap side in the game.

As for the multiplayer side of the game sadly still feels the same as the beta i played, the multiplayer feels OP with the guns & very bland with a very generic feel to it, which is a shame since the main campaign story is brilliant.
As before when i played the beta i just wasn't feel it then iver, ya oh course you gonna get those that just well its fun , i might enjoy picking my nose but i still wouldn't call it fun lol.
When a multiplayer feels this generic im sure its gonna receive some backlash as it compare to call of duty & halo with a quake feel, because that all the multiplayer feels like the fact they want you to pay $40 (usa) £30 uk for a season pass to get extra content for multiplayer i cant really see most doing that when it feel like this.

Good thing the story side of the game is good as this game would fail, so its got it good point, mainly for its campaign which is good.

Pros:
Good combat system & upgrades
Game mechanics run smooth at 1080p 60fps
Good story campaign
Graphics are good
Environment sell the story brilliant
Rune challenges offer challenge for the hard core game
Snapmap is cool
Old school run & gun fights

Con:
Movement is a little over barring at time.
Some boss's are a little OP on easy mode
Multiplayer just feel generic
$40 season pass is a little to much for a poor multiplayer.
There are a few glitch with load screen & a few bugs.
Snap map not easy to follow missing alot thing to make it clearer to understand how to use.

Overall Rating:
Campaign story -  9 out of 10
Snapmap  - 7 out of 10
Multiplayer - 5 out of 10
